Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Alzheimer's Association held their annual state house day event Tuesday morning.

Lt. Governor Glenn McConnell, who lost his mother to Alzheimer's disease, addressed the group.

Advocates are urging them to support the Alzheimer's Caregiver Respite Program, which helps family caregivers preserve their own physical and mental health while caring for a loved one with dementia around the clock.

About 80,000 people in our state live with Alzheimer's.

Over 287,000 South Carolinians are caregivers for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia.
