Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- For the first time since 2007, South Carolina Softball earned a bid to the NCAA tournament.
The Gamecocks were selected to play in the Austin regional and will take on Houston. South Carolina finished the season with a record 32-23. It's been arguably the best season during the Beverly Smith era as the Gamecocks also made the SEC tournament. After knocking off host Kentucky in the conference tournament, they eventually fell to Tennessee.
"I'm just soo happy for these seniors," said USC Head softball coach Beverly Smith. "I think this shows them that when we play well we can play with anyone in the country."
South Carolina and Houston will begin play Friday.
