(WLTX) --- Irmo's Danny Efland is essentially a NASCAR free agent.
Efland had planned on running roughly 27 Nationwide Series for JD Motorsports this season. However, the two sides parted ways in late March, leaving Efland without a full-time ride.
He competed in the Nationwide series event at Darlington two Fridays ago for Mike Harmon motorsports. But for the time being, Danny's path to the track will take him through the Camping World truck series garage.
Efland finished 20th in the NC Lottery 200 last Friday and he hopes that by staying the game, he will attract the attention of an owner who will put him in a full-time ride.
The teams that Danny has come on board with of late are those who are lacking in sponsorship. Efland has brought on a couple of sponsors but for now, there are not enough dollars to support a full-time effort in either series.
Until then, Danny will be taking all the necessary steps to compete in as many events as possible. In working with these teams who are lacking a large budget, Efland has added crew chief duties to his resume. Efland earned an engineering degree from USC and has used that education and his hands-on approach of setting up the car or truck to make him more attractive to an owner needing a fill-in driver.
Efland hopes he can parlay this 2013 experience into a full-time ride for 2014.
