Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County deputies have charged a man with killing his grandparents and setting their home on fire.

Joseph Manners, 20, is facing two counts of murder and one count of arson.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis says last Saturday, firefighters responded to a Barnwell Drive home that was on fire. When crews put out the blaze, they found the bodies of James and Janice Toppler inside.

A witness told officers that a white Honda had been seen coming from the back of the home just after the fire began.  Deputies then put out an alert to local and national law enforcement to be on the lookout for the car.

On Sunday, law enforcement in Kentucky spotted the vehicle, and say when they tried to pull the car over, Manners led them on a chase. The chase went over the border and into Cincinnati, Ohio, where officers were finally able to bring the car to a stop. Inside, they found Manners.

Dennis says his investigators have been able to learn that Manners had come from Kentucky to live with his grandparents a few weeks ago. In that time, his officers had been called to the home when they got a report that Manners had attacked his grandmother.

No charges were filed in that case. Dennis said the family had recently decided to send him back to Kentucky.

Investigators say they're working to bring Manners back to South Carolina as quickly as possible to face prosecution.
