Timmonsville, SC (WLTX) - Honda will create their next generation multi-utility vehicle exclusively at their South Carolina plant, a move that will create 65 new jobs.
Honda leaders, along with Gov. Nikki Haley and state commerce officials, made the announcement Friday at Honda's Timmonsville facility.
The company plans to use the production line to make the Pioneer, an off-road vehicle designed for multiple uses.
Production will begin with the 2014 model.
To make the vehicle, Honda will invest $27 million into the plant over the next four years.
"We congratulate Honda of South Carolina in their new Honda side-by-side production accomplishment," said Gov. Nikki Haley in a statement. "We are also excited that Honda has chosen to create more jobs in Timmonsville and bring a more than $27 million investment opportunity to the state of South Carolina. When a world-class company like Honda increases its footprint in the Pee Dee region, it shows that South Carolina is a great place to do business."
