Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A new face will lead at the Richland County Elections office starting Monday with newly hired director Howard Jackson's first day on the job.

Jackson takes over after November's general election that saw long lines, not enough voting machines and lost ballots.

Former elections director Lillian McBride stepped down from the role in January after she and her office faced major criticism from lawmakers and the public.

McBride was later hired as the Deputy Director of Voter Registration and Absentee Services.

Jackson, who formerly worked with voter registration in Orangeburg County, will make $78,000 a year and have a one year probationary period.

The elections board says Jackson planned to become a resident of Richland County and intends to devote full-time attention to the position.
