Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County School Superintendent Randolph Bynum has announced his resignation.
Sumter School Board Chairman Keith Schultz confirmed the decision in a statement released Tuesday morning.
"[Bynum] has informed the Board of Trustees that after much prayer, reflection, and counsel with friends, he is requesting that the Board of Trustees release him from the day to day responsibilities as District Superintendent."
The release says there will be a transition to new leadership by August 30th, and until a new leader is picked, Bynum will remain superintendent.
Monday night, hundreds of people gathered at meeting to express their displeasure with Bynum, and to call for his dismissal. Previous Coverage: Hundreds Call for Superintendent's Job School board members voted to table their meeting until Thursday.
