Officers say around 9 p.m. Wednesday, two groups of people got into a gunfight outside the Deer Park Apartments, which are located on Firelane Road off Two Notch Road.
During the exchange of gunfire, at least one of the bullets struck Nemley. At the time of the incident, he was holding his three-year-old daughter. The child was not hurt.
Nemley died at the hospital. Police say he was an innocent bystander.
According to an incident report from the Richland County Sheriff's Department, deputies tried to speak with people on the scene after the shooting, but people were not willing to talk.
One neighbor spoke with News19. We are concealing their identity due to safety concerns.
"I don't allow my kids to come out and play at all," said the neighbor. "It's just too much that goes on out here."
The person says the situation worries them.
"I don't feel safe, my family doesn't feel safe. This is not the first time a shooting went on out here. This is actually the third time a shooting has went on out here. It just doesn't make any sense," the neighbor said.
