Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Richland County Coroner Gary Watts and Sheriff Leon Lott confirmed Friday that a body recovered in Elgin Thursday is the remains of Gabbiee Swainson.

Lott issued a statement Friday morning on behalf of both of the men announcing that determination. They added that additional testing on the body will be done to find her cause of death. Freddie Grant, 53, is charged with murder in the death of Swainson. Swainson had been missing for 357 days, ever since deputies say Grant took her from her home on August 18, 2012.

Thursday, investigators flew Grant in from a federal prison in Kentucky after he told them he would lead them to Swainson's body. Grant had been housed there after he was convicted of an ammunition charge related to the case.

Ultimately, Lott said Grant took them to a field in Elgin about three miles from his home. After excavating the site for several hours, officers removed Swainson's body from a five-foot deep grave.

Swainson, who was just 15-years-old, was a student at Ridge View High School. Related: School District Says They Are Saddened
