Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens latest attraction, the Zip Line Canopy Course, opens to the public Friday.
Guests will be strapped into a harness, which is attached to a trolley and an overhead cable. People then zip from one end of the cable to the other, passing over and through the surrounding nature.
Fifteen zip guides will be there to help assist guests.
The course allows visitors to do two things: zip the zoo or zoom the river.
The Zoo Zip is a set of four short courses for beginners and those on an intermediate level. The River Zip is a set of two short zips, a rickety bridge that people can cross, cargo nets, and finally, a 1,010 feet river zip that takes you over the Saluda River.
"It's a different way to explore part of Columbia, explore the zoo and the garden, and of course our scenic Saluda River," says Riverbanks Zoo Communications Specialist Susan O'Cain. "It's a lot of fun. It's just a one of a kind experience and something that we've never offered at the zoo before."
Zip tours are scheduled daily, and reservations are required. Zip the Zoo is $30 for Riverbanks members $45 for the general public. The River Zip is $40 for Riverbanks members and $55 for the general public. The tours are between two and three hours long.
