Monetta, SC (WLTX)- The Big Mo Drive-In is the proud new owner of an $80,000 Digital Projector thanks to all of your votes.
"I think we prepared ourselves not to win," said Lisa Boaz.
A phone call early Monday morning changed all of that.
"The man on the phone told me my morning was about to get a whole lot better because we were the winners of project drive-in," said Lisa.
Lisa and Richard Boaz have owned the the Big Mo Drive-In since 1998. They have 3 screens and must change each one over to digital because the movie industry is moving away from film.
"We are so humbled we won," said Richard. "The boxes of film seem to get heavier and heavier every year."
Monetta's Big Mo is one of about 350 drive-in theaters still open in the country, and according to the website ProjectDriveIn.com, enough votes has come in from the Midlands to provide the Big Mo with their new Digital Projector.
"We want to say thank you to everyone who voted, you are the reason we do what we do," said Richard.
The Project was launched with the intention of saving five drive-ins around the country, and the public response and participation has been so high that they'll be able to help 4 additional drive-ins.
