Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - Kershaw County deputies have arrested a 15-year-old boy they say pretended to be a cop, handcuffed a woman, and told her to take off her clothes.
The teen is currently in Department of Juvenile Justice custody in Columbia. He's charged with impersonating an police officer, kidnapping, and attempted criminal sexual conduct third degree.
On October 2nd, officers say the suspect went to the victim's home and told her he was a Kershaw County deputy, and showed her a badge and a flashlight.
According to the victim, he demanded that he be let in the home.
Once inside, the woman says the suspect handcuffed her and put her hands behind her back. Officers report the man told her he was there to strip search her, and that if she didn't do as she was told he'd Taser her.
The victim told the suspect that she would remove her clothes if he took off the handcuffs. When he did, the victim hit the suspect in the face and ran from the house.
The suspect also left the area.
The victim was able to identify the suspect, and within three hours, he was in custody.
"A juvenile or adult impersonating a law enforcement officer as a means to commit a crime of any type, but especially a sexual assault, is something we take very seriously," said Sheriff Jim Matthews. "Fortunately the victim in this case was able to escape before this incident escalated further and we were able to apprehend the suspect in a timely manner."
