Strong Arm Robbery Suspect Arrested in Newberry

Newberry, SC (WLTX) A man accused of forcibly robbing a 73-year old man while he was pumping gas has been caught and arrested. 

Christopher Walton David, 43, of Chapin was arrested for strong armed robbery and will also be charged with assault and battery on a police officer while resisting arrest. 

Investigators were searching for David on Lazy Brook road in the Chapin section of Newberry county after receiving word that he was in the area. 

One of the officers located David and attempted to arrest him, however the suspect  was able to break free and ran into the woods.  

Officers from the Newberry County Sheriff's Office, Lexington County Sheriff's Office, Chapin Police Department, and State Law Enforcement Division all responded to the scene with a search using bloodhounds and the SLED helicopter.

The suspect was located hiding in a thick underbrush on Meadowlark Road. He was taken into custody without incident.

 The search lasted approximately an hour and a half and the suspect had covered more than a mile.
