Hope Hawkins (Darlington County Detention Center)
HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The case of a South Carolina mother charged in the fire deaths of her four children will be prosecuted by the state attorney general's office.
Twenty-one-year-old Hope Hawkins faces four counts each of homicide by child abuse and illegal conduct toward a child in the deaths in a house fire in Hartsville last April.
The Morning News of Florence reported (http://bit.ly/19tSmDw ) the attorney general's office will prosecute the case at the request of prosecutor Will Rogers. Rogers said he has potential conflicts of interest with people involved.
Authorities say Hawkins left the children - ranging from 10 months to 4 years - at home alone. Hawkins said she was outside in the yard when the fire started.
