GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - Israel says the militant atop its most wanted list for more than a decade was wounded by the quarter-ton bomb it dropped on a Gaza house.
This marks the fourth time Israel has tried to kill Mohammed Deif, the leader of the military wing of Hamas. Deif is believed responsible for suicide bombings in Israel.
He lost an eye four years ago in a missile strike. Palestinian officials say today's bombing left Deif with a serious injury to
the spine that required four hours of surgery and could paralyze him.
Seven children and two adults were also killed. They're among the 23 Palestinians who died Wednesday in Gaza in a series of airstrikes, shelling attacks and a gunfight. Israel has been
pushing into Gaza since Hamas militants crossed the border and kidnapped an Israeli soldier last month.
