MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) -- The attorney for a mother accused of killing her two children by leaving them in a hot car says police ignored items in the vehicle that show the woman was concerned about her children's safety. During a hearing Friday in magistrate's court, a Hanahan police detective testified that investigators did not inventory and take pictures of all of the items in Sametta Heyward's car. Defense attorney Andy Savage says those items included battery-operated fans, toys, food and drinks and show Heyward thought about her children before leaving them in the car while she went to work in July. The 27-year-old mother is charged with two counts of homicide by child abuse.
