Tampa, Florida (WTSP) – A woman punched a horse outside an Ybor City, Florida nightclub early Sunday as mounted patrols tried to clear a crowd on East Seventh Avenue, police said Monday.
Angelica Rene Ayala, 26, of Saint Conrad Street West, Tampa, spent most of the morning inside the Hillsborough County jail on a charge of Offenses Against Police Animals, jail records show.
She was released on $500 surety bond just before noon, about nine hours after the incident.
Police said Ms. Ayala, who's only 5'4” tall, punched a horse belonging to the Pinellas Park Police Department, which was among the law enforcement agencies assisting Tampa Police during and after the Gasparilla parade.
The horse was struck in the neck, police said. Neither the horse nor his rider, a Pinellas Park police officer, was injured.
The incident occured as police were trying to break up a fight, police said.
Two other persons were also charged with offenses against police animals – Rick Keller, 46, of Riverside Drive, Tampa, and Sendhill Kumar Krishnan, 28, of Seventh Avenue East, Tampa – but specific details were not available. They bonded out of jail Sunday afternoon.
