Football Player Died of Irregular Heartbeat

The report was issued by the Jacksonville, Florida medical examiner's office.

Benedict died in March at a home in Jacksonville.

Doctors concluded the death was natural and that Benedict had an enlarged heart. There were no signs of a stroke or heart attack. There were also no signs of illegal drugs in his system, or alcohol.

The report also noted that it could not speculate on any kind of usage of performancing enhancing drugs.

Benedict, a 6'6" 325 offensive lineman, was expected to be taken in the early rounds of April's NFL Draft.  He was the first player from Newberry College to compete in the Under Armour Senior Bowl.
