(Columbia/WLTX) --- The sport of lacrosse is gaining traction in the Palmetto State and that process has been helped by the South Carolina High School League which has elevated the sport to official status.
Jeff Troyer. who coaches a team from Irmo, says having the governing body sanction the sport means instant credibility.
However, the first season as an official sport means plenty of unique circumstances. Troyer's team consists of players from three high schools - Irmo, Dutch Fork and Chapin.
Troyer hopes in five years the number of schools supporting a lacrosse team will have doubled, with those three schools and others elevating lacrosse to the same status as other sports such as soccer and baseball.
