Corrections Officer Robert Johnson Shot During Home Invasion

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter police are searching for the person who broke into a corrections officer's home and shot him early Friday morning.

Investigators say around 5:40 a.m., they got a 911 call of an emergency at a home on Love Street in Sumter. When they arrived, they found that the home had been broken into, and they found Robert Johnson, 57, with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Johnson was taken to Tuomey Hospital for treatment.

According to officers, Johnson was confronted by the suspect, who then shot Johnson in the chest. The suspect then ran from the home.

Johnson has been able to tell investigators some of what took place during the crime. Investigators say when he recovers, they hope to get more information from him.

The State Law Enforcement Division and the Department of Corrections are assisting in the Investigation.
