Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Another candidate has thrown her hat into the ring for Republican Sen. Jim DeMint's U.S. Senate seat.
Sumter attorney Mazie Ferguson announced her run Monday as a write-in candidate. She says her campaign focus is on the poor and middle class, jobs and education.
The Civil Rights activist was a member of the Democratic National Convention in 1984 and in 1988, and says it's time for a change in Washington, one that Jim DeMint and Alvin Greene can't give the people of the Palmetto State.
"There's a voice missing in South Carolina. There's a voice missing in the United States Senate. It is the voice of ordinary people. It is the voice of the masses of the people in the counrty, but their interests are not being heard or served by political ideologues," said Ferguson.
Ferguson faces fellow Democrat Alvin Greene, Republican Jim DeMint and Green Party candidate Tom Clements in the November election.
