GREENVILLE, SC (AP) -- A South Carolina teenager who raped and killed an 8-year-old neighbor is being transferred to adult prison to serve the rest of his 25-year sentence.
The Greenville News reports Samuel Young III is scheduled to be transferred from juvenile detention Wednesday, his 17th birthday.
Young pleaded guilty in May to involuntary manslaughter and first-degree criminal sexual conduct in the July 2008 death of Dymia Janae Woody. He was 14 at the time but charged as an adult.
A sheriff's deputy found Dymia in a closet of an abandoned mobile home in Piedmont, hours after her parents reported her missing. She had been sexually assaulted and asphyxiated.
Young was a friend of Dymia's older brother. He had pretended to help search for her.
