Lexington, SC (WLTX)- Getting diagnosed with cancer is never easy. Lexington teacher Melissa Harvey was diagnosed with breast cancer in December of 2008. She went through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Then in the spring of 2010, doctors found another mass on her sternum.
Melissa said telling her two young boys it was back was the hardest part.
"We didn't want to tell them," she said. " But they knew we were upset. So we couldn't hide it. It was a very tough day."
For help, Melissa turned to the American Cancer Society's 24 hour helpline. They sent her to ACS's wig closet for a free wig and scarfs.
"That really helped," Melissa said. "I didn't feel like myself loosing my hair. So having a wig was really the first step to pulling myself together and feeling like me again."
