Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Search and mobile giant Google plans an announcement Friday, to be joined by Governor Haley and local officials.
According to The Post And Courier of Charleston (http://bit.ly/SQlTSn), the press release included no other details about the planned event at the 500 acre Google data center in Berkeley County.
Opened in 2008, the $600 million data center was the first in the company's plans, anticipating a 2nd facility at the same expense to open next door in 2012.
Heavy construction was to be completed by years' end, but the full facility completion would not happen until sometime in 2013. According to the Post And Courier, there is also consideration of further expansion for the company's South Carolina presence sometime on down the road.
Google has data and development facilities world-wide, and along with the online search engine, has introduced software and a computer operating system, as well as the Android mobile phone platform.
