Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- One local church brings the word of God to a cell phone near you.
What if the same spirit you get in the pews was in your pocket?
"Just got to your app, click on a sermon and get a word right then and there," LeMon Jones said.
Media Ministry techies Jones and Mark Carter decided about six months ago it was time for Bible Way Church to have its own app.
"We definitely studied other people's apps and definitely looked and researched what we would actually need," Jones said. "We looked at the dynamics of our church and what the need would be for what we need to place into the app."
Carter is a 20-year-old Benedict College student.
And like most Millenials he wants his information at his fingertips, including a good bible verse or two.
"You have to make the church accessible and I think that's the whole goal of the app is to make the church more accessible," Carter said. "24 hours a day you can access the church; ministries, prayer requests, sermons."
The Android app features a live stream of services, videos of older sermons and even a mobile tithing system.
But Bible Way isn't a newcomer when it comes to using technology on the pulpit.
"Actually Pastor [Jackson] will encourage it in services," Carter said. "He'll say, 'let's tweet this, this is my tweet for the day, or Facebook post for the day.'"
"Most people and most churches have a need to reach out not only in the church but beyond the walls of the church and we definitely feel the need to do that on our social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram," Jones said.
In the book of Matthew Jesus says "Go forth and make disciples."
This app could make it a little easier.
"Why not have the word of God, pretty much, in your pocket, you can take it where ever you want to go," Jones said.
The app launched about two weeks ago for Android phones.
The iPhone version should be coming out by the end of this month.
