Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The old SCANA building on Columbia's Main Street has been undergoing major renovations, as it gets converted into a luxury apartment center.
Open House for the complex started Friday and The Hub, as it is known, is garnering lots of attention.
"I know we've already ran out of a couple floor plans, we've sold out of them," Melissa Flath said.
Potential residents of The Hub flooded the lobby for the first open house. Many of the attendees were students from around Columbia. Anthony Bartuch just signed his lease for 2014.
"We have a much better living style now having the nicest place around, brand new I have that above people too, it's bragging rights," Bartuch said.
But Leasing Manager Melissa Flath says downtown's newest apartment complex isn't just for students.
"I'm trying to make everyone aware that we're not a dorm we're a luxury apartment complex located next to a university," Flath said.
The Hub boasts 60 different floor plans holding one to five occupants.
Although the renderings portray the inside to be very swanky, it's the outside that has people talking.
"We're kind of known for having insane, amazing amenities," Flath said.
"The pool with the 22' screen to watch the games. We could watch the away games," Bartuch said.
While some may find The Hub's features off the wall, Flath says it's just business.
"You're trying to be better than the next competitor. How do you do that? Offer more things, be cooler, be bigger, be more extravagant," Flath said. "You got to keep pushing to be better and be the No. 1 in the market. Competition drives a lot of it."
The hub has only been leasing for a little over a month and over 800 new residents will be moving in on August 15, 2014.
