Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - The dismembered body of 30-year old Larry Lee Thomas Jr. was found in Kershaw County Monday.
Deputies say a Cassatt man accused of killing the victim is now in custody; he is 46 year old Raleigh Furman Jr.
Investigators say they were notified about the death from one of Furman's relatives.
"He has confessed and has given us all the information about what happened," said Sheriff Jim Mathews.
Mathews says Furman and the victim lived together and had an argument. Investigators say Furman called one of his relatives and told him that he killed a man and cut up his body.
"They found several black plastic bags. They partially opened a couple of them and they saw what appeared to be some body parts."
Deputies were on the scene at Furman's home before sunrise and found the body parts in a shed.
Mathews says Furman admitted to being high on crack cocaine when he killed Thomas.
"They got into an argument over some money and that led to the assault and the ultimate death of the victim. The victim was killed on Friday, dismembered on Saturday."
Furman checked into the hospital Sunday after having chest pain.
"It's our opinion that he over exerted himself in the process of dismembering this man and that is kind of our opinion, obviously we are not medical experts but we think that might be behind his heart problem, " said Sheriff Mathews.
Mathews says Furman beat the victim to death with a pipe wrench and placed his body parts in multiple black trash bags.
Deputies have obtained an arrest warrant and Furman will be charged with murder.
