Friday, federal and state officials announced that a foreign national had hacked a server at the South Carolina Department of Revenue multiple times, taking the records back in September. Investigators believe in addition to the Social Security numbers, the cyber thief made off with 387,000 credit card and debit numbers.

Because of the theft, the state has worked with a private credit agency to offer credit counseling for people affected.  They're asking anyone who's paid taxes since 1998 to reach out for help. LINK: How to Get Help

The lines of the hotline for the help were overwhelmed Friday, and eventually, a generic code was given to people to access the help website.

Haley has issued an executive order calling for major changes to the way state agencies handle cyber security. Meanwhile, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Hugh Leatherman has called set a meeting of his panel for Tuesday. Leatherman wants the director of the revenue department to testify about taxpayer information and the security breach.
