COLUMBIA, SC  (WLTX)-- The Columbia College President will be escorted to the roof of the Student Union building by Campus Police on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Why the roof you ask?  Simple.  First-year President Elizabeth Dinndorf is going to great heights to help raise money for the United Way of the Midlands.

She has to stay on the rooftop until she raises $5,000.00.

Columbia College, in partnership with WLTX-News19, is encouraging the community to support this effort as the holiday season approaches.

With temperatures dropping, President Dinndorf says she hopes her stand on the rooftop will be a poignant reminder of the particular challenges for the city's homeless, jobless and less fortunate residents during the winter season.

All proceeds will go directly to the United Way, which serves non-profit organizations across the Midlands including Harvest Hope Food Bank, The Salvation Army and the Family Shelter.

Viewers can watch complete coverage of President Dinndorf and her funraising efforts.  Members of the community are invited to join Columbia College students, faculty, and staff to return the President to solid ground.   Cash, check and caredit card donations will be accepted onsite once she has arrived on the rooftop.

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.--on event day only--all online donations, www.uway.org/give , will be counted towards the event.

This year marks the 6th year of Columbia College's United Way annual campaign. The current campaign has hosted a number of initiatives including photographs with a nationally renowned Santa Claus and Columbia College staff member, Patrick Faulds; a pie-in-the-face contest with faculty members; and a football rivalry contest during homecoming season. The President's rooftop event marks the culmination of the month-long campaign.
