Columbia, S.C. (WLTX) - The State Department of Employment and Workforce says their website is back online and fully operational after their site was "defaced" Saturday.
Spokesperson Adrienne Fairwell said Sunday, via email, that the incident was a "website defacement by a malicious user."
"We cannot stress enough that no personal identifying information, sensitive and/or confidential data was accessed, released, lost or stolen because of the multiple layers of security controls we have in place at the agency," said Fairwell.
Despite our repeated requests for an on camera interview, Fairwell said Sunday, no one from the department is available.
It's still unclear who is responsible for the agency's website defacement.
However, Fairwell says the agency is extremely confident that the issue has been fully resolved and Information Technology workers will be working over the Christmas holiday to make sure no other areas are vulnerable.
