CATAWBA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have determined what killed a Monroe, N.C., man who died doing work at a York County paper plant in January.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports Saturday that York County Coroner Sabrina Gast says 39-year-old Samir Storey died of hydrogen sulfide intoxication.

Authorities say Storey and another worker climbed into an old tank outside the main production area at the Resolute Forest Products plant in Catawba to do some maintenance work. Storey's cousin, who was also working in the area, said smoke went into the tank, triggering alarms and trapping Storey inside.

The other worker was removed from the tank and was treated for injuries. State Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors are investigating the death.
