Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A family suing over a reported sexual assault has added The South Carolina Special Olympics to a list of defendants.
The law firm of David Massey amended their previously filed lawsuit, adding the Special Olympics alongside Lexington School District Two and the suspect, Cornelius Davis. The lawsuit is filed on behalf of a female teenage victim and her mother, who claim Davis sexually assaulted the girl back in 2012.
At the time, Davis was working as a basketball coach with the Special Olympics.
In March of 2012, Mt. Pleasant police arrested Davis on a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. An incident report says the incident took place at a hotel room in the area.
The lawsuit says the Special Olympics was "grossly negligent" because the organization didn't properly supervise and protect the victim.
