SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - The Spartanburg County coroner's office is trying to determine if a skull found in Spartanburg last week was stolen from a grave at last year.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger says investigators wonder if the skull was taken from a grave reported on March 26, 2012.
Clevenger says a man found the skull April 20 in a field about 300 yards from the cemetery where the grave desecration occurred. The coroner says the grave is from the 1960s.
No other human bones were found with the skull.
The 2012 incident was discovered when someone found a headstone had been overturned and the tomb had been damaged.
