Orangeburg, SC (WLTX)- Cyclists are riding across the state of South Carolina to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association. The fifth annual "A Ride to Remember" event benefits the South Carolina Chapter.
Over 100 cyclists from across the state met in Simpsonville on Friday morning to begin a 252-mile journey from Simpsonville to Mt. Pleasant over the course of three days. The cyclists stopped in Newberry and Orangeburg along the way, raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer's support services, education and research programs.
A Ride to Remember has nearly doubled its participation from just one year ago, with over 100 riders registers and nearly $100,000 raised to date. The community may donate to support the cause at www.aridetoremember.org.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative neurological disorder that currently has no known cure. It is estimated that nearly 80,000 people in South Carolina are living with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia.
