Lake Marion, SC (WLTX) -- A Columbia and Irmo family say their trip to Lake Marion Wednesday netted them a big catch. Sarah Silkwood says her family caught an alligator that weighed 500 pounds and measured 11 feet, 2 inches.
Silkwood says seven family members were involved in the hunt. She tells News19 that it took them 30 minutes to bring in the gator.
In South Carolina, hunters must have a tag to hunt alligators. Those tags are awarded in a lottery system.
Silkwood says her family used her father's tag Wednesday. They have two more tags among the group and say they'll be back hunting this weekend.
