Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Voters are casting ballots today for local elections all across the Midlands.
Polls opened at 7 a.m., and will close at 7 p.m. MORE: What ID you need to bring to the polls
One slight bit of confusion today: The Earlwood community in Columbia says some election guides incorrectly listed Ward 20 as voting at Hyatt Park, but they are actually casting ballots at the Earlewood Park Community Center.
Perhaps the race that's getting the most attention is the Columbia mayoral contest. The matchup pits first-term incumbent Steve Benjamin against City Councilman Moe Baddourah. Whoever wins may get a major change in their responsibilities: in a month, Columbia voters will go back to the polls to decide if the city will change to a "strong-mayor" system, which would give the mayor more power than the current council system.
Columbia voters will also decide on three city council seats.
Richland County voters choose whether to approve a bond referendum to provide additional funds to the Richland County library system. Also on the ballot will be the Town of Lexington Mayor, a Chapin referendum on beer and wine sales, and almost three dozen council and mayoral races in Orangeburg, Richland, Lexington, Calhoun and Kershaw Counties.
WLTX will have the latest results here online when they become available, and a complete look at key races on News19 at 11.
