Columbia, SC (WLTX)- Attorney Tem Miles has been declared the winner in a five-way race for a West Columbia City Council seat.

Miles was a write-in candidate for the 4th district seat, he received 46% of the votes on Tuesday. He beat out four other candidates-- Luane Brickhouse, Bobby George, Marsha Moore and Ann Thornley.

"I knocked on 400 doors throughout this process," said Miles.

The father of three is married to Cassie, their family has been living in West Columbia for the past 7 years. He decided to run after learning of the passing of former Brookland-Cacye athletics director and football coach Abby Bray. Bray formerly held the District 4 seat.

"When the seat became open, I knew I wanted to hold a leadership position in my community and I wanted a say in the direction it goes," said Miles.

Miles says it was important to meet the voters face-to-face because his name would not appear on the ballot. The votes will be certified on Wednesday. Miles will be sworn in next Tuesday.

Miles is an attorney with McKay, Cauthen, Settana & Stubley, PA in Columbia.
