Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Department of Employment and Workforce lost power Monday, causing a brief delay in services.
SCDEW spokesperson Adrienne Fairwell says the building lost electricity around 9:15 a.m. She says leaders with the agency decided to shut down its servers in an effort to maintain the integrity of the unemployment insurance system.
The agency's website was also down for several hours because of the problem. It has since been restored, and Fairwell says no data was lost.
Because of the disruption, DEW will extend it operating hours to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday so people can file their claims.
People can go to the MyBenefits ports on DEW's website mybenefits.dew.sc.gov or call 1-866-831-1724.
Fairwell says the agency is installing a generator to help with outages in the future.
