Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- The battle for the Class AAAA Division One state championship will feature two Midlands schools in Dutch Fork and Sumter.

Under first-year coach Reggie Kennedy, Sumter is looking for its first state championship since 1990. Kennedy won a state championship as a player at East Clarendon, but this is his first appearance in the finals as a coach.

Dutch Fork is back in the championship for the second year in a row after losing to Gaffney 12 months ago.

The Silver Foxes have never won a state title in football and until last year, had never advanced to the championship game.

Head coach Tom Knotts is in his fourth year at Dutch Fork. Before coming to the Palmetto State, he won six state titles at North Carolina's Independence High School.

Each team had huge road wins to advance to the finals. Sumter defeated Summerville 28-27, while Dutch Fork defeated nationally ranked Byrnes 31-21.

Kickoff Saturday is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Williams-Brice Stadium.
