COLORADO SPRINGS (9News Denver) -- A 14-year-old girl was killed Monday after being accidentally shot at her home in Colorado Springs.
Police say the girl was shot around 6 a.m. Larry Herbert with the Colorado Springs Police Department told 9NEWS that police initially responded to a report of a burglary on the 4300 block of Ascendant Drive.
He said the girl had been entering the house at that time, but did not make the direct connection that she was mistaken for a burglar. The girl was transported to a local hospital where she later died as a result of her wounds.
The name of the victim was not released. The case remains under investigation.
