Columbia, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina drivers paid the lowest prices in the nation for gas last year, according to numbers released Thursday by AAA Carolinas.
It's the second year in a row South Carolina's had the cheapest gas.
The average in 2013 was $3.24 a gallon, which is the cheapest average the state's seen in three years. Back in 2010, gas prices averaged $2.60.
AAA Carolinas CEO David E. Parsons said increased refinery capacity, more fuel-efficient vehicles, and higher production of North American crude oil help explain the dip in prices.
The national average for gas was $3.49.
Gas prices are expected to average slightly less in 2014.
