Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A new study by a criminology professor at the University of South Carolina shows half of black males and 40 percent of white males have been arrested by age 23.
This is the first time a study has looked at the percentage of the population who has ever been arrested by a certain age.
The arrest histories run the gamut from truancy and underage drinking to more serious and violent offenses. The study excludes arrests for minor traffic violations.
Researchers are looking to see impact the arrests have on these individuals.
The study also looked at arrests of women of this same age range. It did not show any racial differences.
