Kenny Miles (Richland County Detention Center)

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Former South Carolina running back Kenny Miles has turned himself in to authorities.

Miles arrived at the Richland County Detention Center at 6 a.m. Tuesday. He's formally charged with giving false information to officers.

Back on November 4th, deputies say Miles shot himself in the arm near a business park in Irmo. Initially, investigators thought it was a robbery, but later, they determined there was no crime. They say Miles misled officers in his initial statements.

A warrant states that while at the hospital, Miles told officers that a friend shot him in a dispute over a woman. However, investigators say Miles later told them that he had shot himself in a suicide attempt and intentionally lied to them.

Miles later issued a written apology saying he made a "big mistake" in the incident.

Miles played for the Gamecocks from the 2008 to 2012 seasons. He graduated from USC with a degree in criminal justice.
