CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - A former state lawmaker will spend 60 days in jail on the weekends for harassing an ex-girlfriend.

Thad Viers pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree harassment. Prosecutors dropped a stalking charge as part of a plea deal.

Viers' former girlfriend said he called, texted, emailed and showed up at her home months after they broke up and didn't stop even after police contacted him.

A first-degree burglary charge against Viers is dismissed for now, but prosecutors have the right to reinstate the charge if the 35-year-old Myrtle Beach Republican ever bothers the woman again.

Viers was also sentenced to a year of probation.

Viers served in the state House from 2003 until resigning in 2012. He told the judge he was ready to get on with his life.
