Missing Shaw Airman Now Considered a 'Deserter'

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - A missing Shaw Air Force Base airman is now considered a deserter.

The Air Force says they're still looking for Captain Robby Williams III. He was seen at Shaw Air Force Base on December 18th.

Initially, the base said he was missing, but recently, he was spotted in Waco, Georgia. At the time, he was driving his 2013 Black Jeep Wrangler with South Carolina license plate number ITC 701.

Air Force investigators now believe he's been actively eluding authorities for unknown reasons. The say he's rented motel rooms in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

Investigators say he could be using the alias "Robby Lawton."

The Air Force says hotel, motel and gas station managers should immediately contact local law enforcement officials if he is seen.  Additionally, Interstate travelers may use smartphones to contact Air Force Office of Special Investigations' officials by texting "AFOSI" and their tip to 274637 (CRIMES) or by calling (571) 305-8484.
