RALEIGH, N.C. - South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will hold a fundraiser in Raleigh next month as she looks to stock her 2014 campaign coffers, according to an invitation obtained by WRAL News.

The Feb. 3 event will be hosted by Theresa Kostrzewa, a well-known Raleigh lobbyist ranked as one of the most influential practicing around the North Carolina legislature, and her husband, Bruce Tucker. Those who wish to be credited as "hosts" for the event are asked to contribute or raise $3,500. Other attendees are asked for $1,000 per couple.

"I first met her during Pat's (Gov. Pat McCrory's) campaign," Kostrzewa said Tuesday evening.

Kostrzewa said a lot of her business contacts have dealings in both North Carolina and South Carolina, so it makes sense for the South Carolina governor to raise money north of the state border.

"She's really bright. She's articulate. I identify with her. There are very few female office holders for whom I feel that," Kostrzewa said.

Haley came to North Carolina to campaign on McCrory's behalf in 2012 and appeared at an event last year hosted by a nonprofit group founded to push McCrory's policy agenda.

A note on the invitation to the Feb. 3 event lists a key difference between North Carolina and South Carolina campaign finance law: "South Carolina law allows corporate contributions."

However, as in North Carolina, South Carolina forbids contributions from lobbyists registered in that state.
