COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina National Guard is on standby in case Gov. Nikki Haley calls for help with the winter storm that is bearing down on the state.
Maj. Cynthia King says the Guard has wrecker teams and four-wheel drive vehicles that can help out if they are needed.
The storm moving into the state Tuesday is expected to bring as much of 6 inches of snow to the northeastern corner of South Carolina with heavy ice along the south coast.
The state Department of Transportation says its crews statewide have already mounted plows and loaded materials such as sand and brine to deal with the storm. The agency has more than 1,500 maintenance workers available.
