Sheriff: Man Arrested For Trying To Sell Stolen Trailer

Lexington, SC (WLTX)  A man,  trying to sell a motor vehicle trailer and a utility vehicle on Craigslist,  was arrested when the items turned out to be stolen according to Lexington County Sheriffs department. 

Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said that James Allen Spires, 34, of Lexington was arrested when he offered to sell a dual-axle motor vehicle trailer worth about $2,600 and a Can-Am Maverick utility vehicle worth about $20,000 to undercover officers. 

Detectives arrested Spires on arrest warrants on two counts of receiving stolen goods, he tried to sell undercover officers both the utility vehicle and the trailer for a $1,000 each. 

The  2014 Can-Am Maverick utility vehicle was reported stolen on January 22 from Production Metals in West Columbia and the trailer was reported stolen on January 28 from Hoover Building Systems Inc in Lexington. 

The arrest warrants allege that Spires had knowledge to believe that both items were stolen because he tried conceal the circumstances in which he acquired both items.  I

n addition, according to Metts, he did not include an actual description in the Craigslist ad nor did he possess any paperwork, such as a bill of sale to show he legally owned the items.
