Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - It was a somber mood on the campus of SC State Friday as students came to remember one of their own.
Brandon Robinson was shot and killed outside a dorm. Friday night students organized a vigil to honor his life.
"Everyone is still sad and still feeling it, it hit the whole university but everyone is trying to maintain and stay strong," said SC State student Breylon Jones.
Students like Jones still have mixed feeling after Brandon Robinson was killed on campus.
SGA President Akeem Brown went to high school with Robinson and says he is challenging all students to honor his life by doing something that he was striving to do, earn a college degree.
"I think the students have been shocked more than anything but I think after Friday night and Saturday morning, students realized that it was our duty to keep cultivating the campus environment and grow and live up to the legacy that Brandon Robinson left us and that was to finish a college education," said Brown.
Brandon's college Coach Buddy Pough and others reflected on his life to a crowd of more than 400 students and staff.
"Some people had tears in their eyes and some people were there just to support but everyone is together and trying to help each other through it," said Jones.
"He was a very selfless young man, very humble on and off the field every time you saw him he was ready to help out and ready to be involved so that is what tonight is about, recommitting ourselves to be involved in our campus because we knew that's what Brandon was all about," said Brown.
The funeral for Robinson will be at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School Saturday at 1PM.
