COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A celebration is being held to mark the construction of a new home for the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies at the University of South Carolina.

Monday's event is at 11 a.m. on Preston Green, behind the former health sciences building near the historic Horseshoe on the Columbia campus.

The college is expected to move from the coliseum to the new site in time for fall classes in 2015.

The school expects to nearly double its size through the total renovation of the historic building.

Some 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students will pursue degrees in journalism, advertising, public relations, visual communications and mass communications studies in the newly renovated building.
